Amanda has been practicing in the dental field for over 10 years. She is originally from the southwestern region of Ontario, but finds Ottawa to be the place she now calls home. Amanda practiced Denturism in a Dental Practice setting and often made home calls. It was the demand for Health Practicioners to offer mobile services that intrigues her. Today, Amanda offers her services to people that may not have the mobility to leave a home setting. She specifically enjoys going out into the community and being another visiting face and smile to her clients. She says “I enjoy the extra interaction that my client will receive that day. While being able to work with the patient, I take the time to sit and chat with them and give them company and compassion. I really enjoy Dentistry and how I get to help others have a smile.” While making a denture for someone can be a lengthy process, it’s important to Amanda that the work is done meticulously and that proper post-treatment care is provided to each patient. Amanda also involves herself with continuing education through out the year keeping up to date with new products the come on to the market, whether it is directly to do with the fabrication of dentures and techniques, to helping the patient with better oral care aids. Amanda started her career in dentistry when she was 18 years old, after High School she attended Algonquin College in Ottawa, Ontario to start and complete her Dental Assisting Levels I and II certificate. She went on to writing her NDAEB exam to practice as a Level II Dental Assistant. While Amanda was a Dental Assistant, she had the opportunity to work alongside with Dentists that were advance in their practices and performed excellent dentistry. She got to stretch her skills and learn Reception and was given the opportunity to become the assistant of a Denturist that came on board to the Dental practice. It was the mentorship that Amanda had from the Denturist that pushed her to going back to school at George Brown College in Toronto, Ontario to complete her 3 year Advanced Diploma in Denturism. Amanda is now practicing Denturism and is a member of The College of Denturist of Ontario, The Denture Association of Ontario, and The Denture Association of Canada. She also is involved with Focus On Seniors Group here in Ottawa.
